A Singsong Around the Campfire

I rarely write about music on my blog but for my challenge of blogging seven days a week (that you can read about HERE), I wanted to talk about two of my favourite new albums! Both of them are albums that I had been eagerly waiting for and so, to have them in my hands is a happy feeling!

Peroxide - Nina Nesbitt

After enjoying all of the EPs and singles she has released on iTunes, I was so excited to purchase Nina Nesbitt's debut album Peroxide and I, as I knew would be the case, wasn't disappointed. It's a summery, sweet album as well as being full of meaning and Nina-soul. I have listened to this on repeat since I bought it the day it came out and it's time well spent. It's such an awesome album that has sad, angry and happy songs.

My favourite tracks from the album - although I can't fault one of the tracks as I love them all - are Two Worlds Away, He's The One I'm Bringing Back, The Outcome, The Hardest Part and Not What Your Dad Wants To Know (which is on the deluxe edition).  Kodaline (who I absolutely love) feature on Peroxide on the track Hold You which is a gorgeous song and also one of my favourites.

Cavalier Youth - You Me At Six

Cavalier Youth is You Me At Six's fourth album and it's a fabgreatawesome progression from Sinners Never Sleep. I cherish Cavalier Youth and I have serious sing-song-singing-like-I'm-Josh-Franceschi-sessions with it. It's an album that deserves to be synonymous with oh-my-goodness-gracious awesomeness and I've enjoyed seeing people being impressed and happy with it.

It should be noted that I, like Peroxide, can't fault any of the tracks but my favourites are Too Young To Feel This Old, Win Some, Lose Some, Be Who You Are, Carpe Diem and Wild Ones.

Music To My Ears | 2013

I hope you had the best and happiest Christmas! I had the loveliest family day and am childishly sad to see it go but with plenty more to look forward to, it'll soon be Christmas again - although, for the next six/seven days, it's still Christmas in my eyes!

I love YouTube for many reasons; one of them being that it can be a platform for musicians. I haven't before spoken too much about music on my blog but, today, I thought I'd sum up my favourite music on YouTube in 2013 that is by those whose main platform for me seeing their original songs is YouTube. They are in no particular order but enjoy the musical gems.

 



This song makes me all warm and cosy and fuzzy. Dodie Clark makes my heart happy with the way she writes songs. They're so exciting.

 

I find this song incredibly heart-breaking and raw and it showcases how much Wayward Daughter deserve people to hear their incredible music. They never disappoint.

 



When I first heard The Way We Were by Carrie Hope Fletcher, it was already one of those songs that I always sing my heart out to, feeling teary and then the video... It's such a lovely, heart-warming and thought-provoking video.

Tom Law's Never Met You is such a feel-good song that makes me happy and sing a long with all of my heart at the same time!

YouTubers: TylerWardMusic

The lovely Tyler Ward, TylerWardMusic is an incredibly talented musician who has over 1,000,000 subscribers and deserves every single one of them.

I'm proud to say that I've been supporting Tyler for a very, very long time! The reason I first fell for Tyler was because of the obvious happiness he felt when playing his music. He loved Goo Goo Dolls and Taylor Swift and therefore I loved him. This love has carried on through the last four years and it's awesome watching the incredible things he achieves.

In turn, I don't doubt how genuine and grateful for his fans he is, but he should know I'm thankful for him! Not only this, but he helps out other aspiring musicians by giving them a platform and it's amazing to see how these people progress. The featured artist's story that touches me the most is the story of Dred Scott. He's an incredibly talented homeless man and his voice gives me chills. Here is the video of the awesome guy singing and here's the How We Met video. Tyler is my hero for promoting his music and for being such an incredible guy. Tyler is the philanthropist of the music world.

One of my favourite things about being a fan of Tyler is the release of his originals. Faulting his original songs would just not be possible. One of my favourite of his songs because of how clever and sweet it is, is his song Tyler Swift. His songs are just so awesome, musically perfect and lyrically beautiful! I've stayed up so many times to watch his live videos and have not regretted it one bit, stayed glued to youtube for his latest release and refreshed his twitter feed repeatedly.

One of my biggest dreams is to meet this guy because I love him so much.

Loving a Band is...

People looking in on the outside of those with a deep love - yes, love - for a band can often judge and more often than not will not understand. Now, this can be frustrating; incredibly frustrating.

Loving a band is watching those members through a computer screen and just grinning. That grin, I tell you, is more than a grin: it's an action expressing the pure happiness those members inject. A grin that, for the moment replaces those three words (that they, every day express for the band members) into a silence. That's not "just a grin". Sometimes, a video, a simple four minute video can protect that girl/boy from the "outside world" and that's more important that those on the outside will ever know. Loving a band is days, weeks, months of excitement before they appear on TV. That moment, when they're presented before many people is a chance for everyone else to experience their sheer talent and flawless personalities. Loving a band is defending them. Defending them when those opposing the party will never quite understand. Defending them because they're perfect as, for you, they're always there. Loving a band is saviour. A saviour from every day life; a saviour from normal struggles; a saviour from deeper struggles. A saviour nonetheless. Listening to the music they create; the music that speaks volumes to those besotted with the band is more than "that tune on the radio". It's seeing the meaning behind the studio versions, the talent behind the acoustic sets and the happiness of the band members when watching them perform live. Loving a band is seeing them live and for that hour and a half not believing what's happening; for that hour and a half it's simply them and the band. Loving a band is mourning for days, weeks, however long after a gig; knowing that that night was more beautiful than their continual excitement will ever be able to portray.  Loving a band is falling for not only the band members, but the relationships inside of the band: the relationships of the band members. Do not underestimate her/his happiness for the members' love for one another. The members' love is their happiness. Loving a band is the music. Loving a band is smiles, crying, excitement. Loving a band is forever.

So I wrote a song because of Carrie Hope Fletcher who I think is awesome and who has...*tries to word so it doesn't sound lame*...inspired me (more in this if you read on):

Tangled, based on Rapunzel has been one of my favourite films since it was released; it is Disney at its best (as it always is!). I love the soundtrack and Flynn Rider has my heart! Carrie Hope Fletcher is also one of my favourite youtubers. Not only is she an incredible song-writer and has a b-e-a-utiful voice, she once posted a video called "Dare To Suck" (here is a link to it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=szink3hLH7s) and it summed up me. I'm "too scared" about a lot of a things and especially when it comes to things that I've personally created; I presume this applies to a lot of people.

From being inspired by the video, I sat down and did what I do best: watched a movie and cried over the parts most people don't (for example where Rapunzel saves herself and Flynn from almost drowning with her magical hair) and yes, I watched Tangled. In my head, at the same time, Carrie's tremendous thoughts were flying around my brain. Nothing, I know (and this isn't me being a pessimist - dreaming and pursuing dreams should be everyone's aim) will come of my lyrics/songs, but that was never necessarily the aim. I want to share my thoughts in the way of song (this now sounds like a Disney movie) just for myself (although I'd love for others to enjoy them!). On with the wee story: I sat down at my keyboard and wrote a little song about myself and how I don't let myself dream (about things ranging from entering myself into a competition to putting my songs up somewhere) and it was due to Carrie Hope Fletcher. I, from my positive-thinking about things I do, submitted a different song to a song-writing competition and got to the semi-finals so thanks Carrie!

Although I wrote the lyrics, I somewhat feel they were due to Carrie's wisdom!

The Girl in the Moonlight

I remember writing my first song when I was eight-ish, composed of chords, melody and backing music. You can imagine. To make it worse, it was about Christmas (Christmas is my favourite time of the year...but still). I played it at a little school event and it actually went down (shall we say...) well; only, however because I was an eight year old attempting to be talented. Yeah, that's my life. *I write this with a pinch of humour*.

I wrote a few songs and then it was just another phase as I grew up. From about twelve years and on I'd write a few random bits and bobs before I got to my music GCSE and it was required as part of a course. From then on, I'd sit at my keyboard and write piano backing and write lyrics. I don't know whether I am good at it, however I enjoy it and that's what life's for, right? I write about things in my life, little stories I make up in my head and things I see people I know go through (in a non-creepy way). I write when I'm bored, inspired or when I believe it's been too long since I've written something.
