A Bit of Book Chatter | October

Being a university student should mean a budget on books right (as in buying no books at all)... Well, has that gone all too well so far? See below for more details.

Love, Rosie (Where Rainbows End) by Cecelia Ahern

I have seen the film adaptation of Where Rainbows End by Cecelia Ahern called Love, Rosie advertised a lot recently, and each time I have seen the trailer I have immediately grinned, excited at the thought of seeing it. I was browsing through some shops today and was delighted to see the book ins store, knowing straight away that I must read it before I see the film. I have heard never ending buckets of good things about Cecelia's writing and after reading the blurb, I know this book is going to keep me very warm as the nights are a little colder. About Rosie and Alex, two best friends, Love, Rose (Where Rainbows End) looks more than charming. Will their friendship be threatened by Alex and his family moving to America? I will see very soon!

The One Plus One by Jojo Moyes

Me Before You by Jojo Moyes is one of my absolute favourite novels, and this gorgeously big book full of Jojo Moyes' words just makes me want to cry with happiness. It looks like an honest novel that's going to make me be told about a scenario I've never thought about, and see something wonderful through it. It follows the life of Jess who has two jobs and two children, and Ed, who has made a mistake but wants to put it right. I love how little I know about the story from the blurb and how I will soon know when I delve into the lovely-looking novel.

You Had Me at Hello by Mhairi McFarlane

I have seen this novel all over the blogosphere for a long time, with positive words attached to every review I've read... I'm excited. Rachel and Ben were once "partners in crime and the best of friends." Life changed. But they are back in each other's lives, and I can't wait to see what this means!

These novels excite me no end! What have you bought this month, or what will you be buying? I'd love to know!

Me Before You - Jojo Moyes

"Heartbreaking yet ultimately uplifting," Good Housekeeping

"Majestic, utterly compelling, tremendous. A heart-stopping read," Independent on Sunday

"A perspective and moving tale," Independent

Never before has it taken me quite so long to write a book review... I'm talking months.

I simply didn't know what to say; what to say that's not been said before. This book is every wonderfully beautiful adjective, every happy bittersweet smile and every excited chatter my mother and I have had about every book at once.

This novel oozes charm, warmth and heartbreak; it oozes honesty and thought.

Me Before You is about Lou Clark and Will Traynor. It could be said to be about quadriplegia, about disability and sadness. And, well, it is. But it's not. Lou, after being made redundant ends up working for Will, much to his displeasure. There to keep him company, it seems she'd do anything to keep out of his way. The twist, though, is one I would never ruin. It's simply one you must discover through Jojo Moyes's gorgeous story.

Lou is a character that you adore reading the words of the author that make up the way of her mind, her words and her outlook. Bubbly and funny, Lou is also caring and very thoughtful. The happy eyes she sees her life through are charming ones- ones that make the emotion of the novel, both more emotional, and more addictive. I've never admired a character like I do Lou, and I loved being alongside Lou and Will's story with her, watching her grow and her brave ways prevail.

Will, to me, is not a tragic character, or anything of the sort. Of course, his situation sucked, and his aching for his old life broke my heart, but he is a hero to me. He is charming and funny, and cares for Lou in a lovely way. I learnt a lot through Will; about disability and his feelings towards it. Ultimately, I'm deeply in love with him.

I finished this in a public place, tears untamed but modest. I couldn't wipe them away because I was so attached to Will and Lou, and wanted to read beyond the pages beyond the book so much. They deserved my tears and my understanding and I couldn't find it in me to lift my hands to my face, because I just wanted to turn the last few pages, close the book, long for more of Jojo Moyes's words and think.

Me Before You is wonderstruckingly lovely.

A Bit of Book Chatter | March

I've bought two books this month. I am incredibly proud. My pile of books is growing so quickly and whilst it does so, for months I've been buying three or more a month (which I know could be considered tame!). I have so little time to read (although I will always make a point to do so every day) that I'm drowning in books!

The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion

I became drawn to looking at this every time I was at a train station with a book section or any time I passed a bookstore. It just looks like a book full of charm and sweetness. It's the next book I will read (I am in need of a charming read); it's ready, sat at the top of my "to be read" pile, looking all shiny and new. The protagonist is called Don Tillman and is in search of a wife. His life, with the help of "the world's most incompatible woman", is about to become chaotic!

The Last Letter from your Lover by Jojo Moyes

Being a huge fan of the awesome Jojo Moyes, I had to pick up The Last Letter from your Lover as it looks incredibly captivating. It is about Jennifer Stirling and Ellie Haworth. Both are living lives that seem to be perfect, but some things are just not right. In time, their stories interlink. I'm going to cry buckets. I just know it.

What have you read recently that you've loved? What have you bought? Let me know!
