Eleven Years of McFly

McFly are eleven years old today.

I feel so excited for them and their success and growth and happiness, and seen as though last year I had a week dedicated to their ten year anniversary on my blog, it seems wrong for me not to mark this occasion with a blog post.

With my McFly Royal Albert Hall wristband round my wrist, next to my McBusted tour wristband, you can't ignore McFly's success and diversity and willingness to do what they want to do whilst making their fans happy. This is the reason I believe McFly have lasted (and will last until they are basically the age of dinosaurs). They do what they want to do.

I'm writing this with McFly on in the background (naturally). Songs from each of their studio albums have come and gone, still imprinting the same fangirl and natural smile on my heart. Each album is so different, so unlike each other, and yet so "McFly" all at the same time.

The last year has been a wonderfully awesome year for McFly: four incredibly awesome shows at Royal Albert Hall to mark ten years of being McFly; the birth of McBusted; Tom's baby Buzz; headlining Hyde Park; Danny and Georgia marrying.

These past few months have been so awesome to watch as McFly have been joined by Matt and James from Busted to make McBusted. You can't deny the happiness Tom, Danny, Dougie and Harry are enjoying. As always, they're in their element. It's just a different element. When I saw them on the McBusted tour, all six of the band looked so excited and so at home; I, in turn, felt the same!

Eleven years of McFly have brought eleven years of success. I'd write out all of their achievements, but I don't need to see them to know that they are the best and most happy and content band in the world. They know who they are, and we know how they are, and that's why they make me so happy. It's a band of four incredibly talented members who have so much friendship and love between them, that, teamed with the most amazing fans (well, what can I say?), makes a band that will last for ever!

Love Is On The Radio

So, I am a big Galaxy Defender* (really? You don't say) and I am writing today because you must buy McFly's new single which is out on the 24th of November.



The artwork is so awesome.

I am going to start by saying this *coughs and prepares oneself*: ASDFGHJKL IT'S SO PERFECT IT HURTS MY FEELS. *Adjusts sleeve and proceeds.* I heard Love Is On The Radio at Royal Albert Hall and I knew straight away that I was in love. What's more, McFly were clearly, as they played their new song to a place full of McFly fans, completely in love with their sound. So, waiting eagerly, a few weeks later, lyrics firmly locked in my brain, "excited" could not explain the extent to which I couldn't wait for the studio version to be released. Woweeeeee. It's something else and I want to make sure we (that's McFly fans, you and I) get Love Is On The Radio to the highest possible place on iTunes. With a classic McRock/Pop track, a hint of Texas influence and lyrics that make my heart flutter, Love Is On The Radio is a beautifully enchanting and charming song. So, on the EP, you get this delicious masterpiece and - there's more awesomeness?! - McFly The Musical. McFly, with 7 UK number ones amongst too many achievements, recognised both widely and by Galaxy Defenders, are definitely deserving of another McClassic to be in the charts and to top it too! Either way, Love Is On The Radio is the perfect tune and a fantabulous way to build the anticipation for their sixth studio album.

McFly, Galaxy Defenders and Royal Albert Hall

So, last Thursday I saw - yes, you guessed it - McFly. I saw my four favourite guys perform their hearts out at the Royal Albert Hall at one of their four special concerts.

 

 

I didn't believe I was going beforehand; it seemed so unbelievable that I was seeing my favourite band's 10th anniversary concert. I was on the train, grinning my way through the journey, bobbing up and down to McFly in my ears before I was finally at the Royal Albert Hall; the beautiful building where the people who I have adored for more of my life than I haven't were about to rock my face off - or maybe my socks, I'm not too sure.

Sat in my seat, merchandise bought, I was ready.

It was time.

We all stood.

And then the tears.

From the very start it was emotional; I was in floods as celebrities and fans said their "well done"s and "thank you"s on the screen and then they played early songs and my emotion heightened. They went through the perfect set, toying easily with my emotions and I loved it.

Everything about it was perfect. I was in a place full of nothing but Galaxy Defenders, people exactly like me, holding on to every last note that was sung and every last beat that was beat and every last moment of the most perfect night. Of course, Busted performing with McFly was, well, fantabulous. It was such a crazy atmosphere when they came on, memories and excitement buzzing off each particle in the room. McFly really took me down a fabulous tour down memory lane and a slight peak into the wonderful future of McFly.

It's time to talk about Love is on the Radio.

Love is on the Radio is McFly's upcoming single and I saw it performed for the first time on stage and I love the song so dang much. I haven't stopped listening to it. I love the Texas-inspired-twang, the lyrics, the melody and most of all that McFly are so content with their music and I'll tell you something for sure: so are every McFly fan and I.

Being in a room with all of these people just like me was electrifying. A few times I looked back at the crowd and the pride and happiness I felt was unreal. These people were singing like never before, just like me, hands in the air, feeling the best feeling in their stomachs, just like me.

The anticipation for these concerts has been like nothing before. McFly's excitement and passion for the show was reflected before and during the concert and it made it that kind of special that's hard to write in words. It was a show where everything from the last ten years was as obvious as McFly's happiness. Reflecting on the last decade was incredible and Tom's creation: McFly The Musical allowed us all to laugh and cry and appreciate that we love the best band in the galaxy. Tom sung and showed how much McFly means to him, reflecting just how much it means to us.

Thank you so much McFly for the most incredible show. I can't wait for the next for ever.

The last time I saw McFly!

Day 3: Tom Fletcher

Tom Fletcher. The one with the dimple. The founder of my favourite band. Oh, where to start?

Tom loves cats. Tom loves Disney. Tom loves his band. When I see McFly live I love taking moments to turn and watch Tom. At times he just looks over the crowd, smiling and taking in his favourite thing about the job, performing, reaching the place he worked so hard to get to. He also talks so passionately about his band, about his music. Tom obviously appreciates everything and that's something so perfect.

Tom's love for music is so obvious. Everything looks like it comes so naturally. All of his videos of him just playing music truly hypnotises me. He puts so much emotion into performances that I believe every word he's singing. It's so flawless. Mr. Fletcher's mind is just brilliant, the natural ability he has for music, shown through him writing a song in five minutes is truly incredible. He has one of those gifted intelligent minds that makes him able to write emotional songs on the toilet. Yeah, Tom Fletcher everyone.

Tom's love for Star Wars is one of my favourite things about him (because I love Star Wars and so... we're totally meant to be, right?). As well as this, his love for superheroes and musicals makes Tom super special. I just want to hug him for the rest of my life.

Shall we talk about his little YouTube video where he sang to his wife now? Yes, I think so. He makes the hopeless romantic in me cry all over the shop. He is so goshdang romantic and sweet that every Galaxy Defender swears they will have no marriage unless they get sung to. Oh, and when he cries in it, - WHEN HE CRIES - I can't help but just cry.

Tom has also battled some personal issues that makes me so proud. He is just so remarkable and he deserves the success that he and my favourite band have.

I just loves him I do.

Day 2: My Unsaid Things

McFly aren't just a band. They're not just four incredibly good-looking guys. They're not just a way of passing my time.

If a friend asked me to explain why McFly will always be tattooed across my heart (metaphorically, I hope!) and I had to go beyond the reasons I always say, (because they're incredibly talented, genuinely awesome people and although it's a bonus, they're out-of-this-world good-looking - I don't like going into it because I'd go in too deep) this is what I'd say:

When I'm upset, however little or big, McFly are who I go to. I'll close my bedroom door, put in my earphones and McFly catch me with their melody and words (yeah, I said it). If I just need cheering up, I'll put on Love Is Easy or Star Girl. If I'm upset because I'm not feeling great about myself I'll listen to Smile and it's unbelievable how it genuinely makes me feel better about how I look and who I am. If I feel like the world is against me, Not Alone is my go-to song. Thank you McFly.

Also when I'm not feeling a particularly bad emotion, McFly are there. A tiring day at college, a road trip, a fab day out with friends: I always end up with McFly. They accompany on walks or cycle rides and sunny days in the garden, bus journeys to town, sitting in the living room or simply wanting to listen to them.

Seeing McFly live is a feeling I can't and never will be able to describe. Nothing else matters when I'm in that atmosphere: it's just my favourite band and I. The music that makes my heart smile and I. The whole experience is overwhelmingly perfect. I'll be so excited beforehand that talking to me is useless. I'll go from not talking to stupidly hyper and then it's a mixture of tears and complete madness. I won't even talk about how I feel when they come on stage: its too emotional.

Meeting McFly (well three of McFly if we're being pedantic) was an experience that I reminisce over for many hours each day and it always brings me such joy. They were nothing but charming, polite and wanting nothing but to make sure mine and everyone else's day was the best. I cried a lot that day because they were perfect.

When I watch videos of McFly I am in my own little bubble whether it be a music video or a behind the scenes sort of video, I get genuine butterflies. They're best friends and it shines through when watching their videos. It's unbelievable how proud it makes me.

These are a few of the ways I could ever so slightly explain my love for them. I really hate explaining why I love McFly because it's the most easy thing I do because they really are a huge part of me.

McFly are the music that makes my soundtrack. McFly are, yes, the most beautiful guys but they're not a "phase." McFly are forever and I'll love them for that, always.

Thanks McFly, for making me feel like I'm not alone.

McFly Week

As on August 5th it is McFly's 10 YEAR ANNIVERSARY EEEEEEK, I thought I would publish a blogpost about the boys once a day for seven days from the 5th of August until the 11th because I'm so super excited for them to reach such an incredible milestone.

So here's the plan:

I have butterflies thinking about McFly being around for 10 years as it proves that, alright, no, they don't have the biggest fanbase, but as Mr. Fletcher they have the "best". That shows their true and wonderful success. I look forward to this week because McFly will be everywhere on my blog: lovely.

McFly - The Best of McFly Tour

Here, I was going to list all of McFly's incredible achievements, but no, I will not. Ignorant are those who ignore McFly's obvious success and one place where McFly kick butt and show that they are no band to be reckoned with is on tour. (*Contains traces of spoilers*.)

It is known that McFly are happiest within their career and enjoying their music the most when they are on tour and heck do they deliver! Being a fangirl from the start, when I'm waiting for my favourite people to grace the stage, anticipation building, heart full with joy, I feel myself remembering the majority of my life that has been highlighted with those lovely four boys and this tour made my emotions go from "omgtheyarekillingmewiththeirperfectionlookattheirfacessohappy" to "lookatthemlookathowtalentedtheyarethetearsarehereTHETEARSAREHERE". As always this. Tour. Was. Fab.

From old school classics to iconic Galaxy Defender songs to gerroffffff your feet and dance like you're a rock star whoppers, the set list was incredible. For a lot of my McFly-Fangirl-career I have wished to see Bubble Wrap live and I stood, incapable to do anything but stare, stare at the perfection: the perfection that is McFly. That song always gives me shivers and I felt myself fall into my own little galaxy listening in awe at the performance.

One of my favourite things is going to the theatre and so I was obviously (pun intended) thrilled at how The Best of McFly Tour was set up: it was beautiful. Ant, Mr Antastic being the presenter was awesome. His beauty was too much and I was really belly-laughing at his jokes. ANTONY BRANT I HEART YOU. The suits - THE SUITS. They looked beautifulgorgeousperfect (as per, as per). With their banter in between, their friendship as obvious as ever, the changing of some lyrics - cheeky! - and their amazing talent of making me have the greatest night of my life, - as they always do - this tour was incredible.

After a gig, I always seem to spend my journey back thinking of the seven-year-old-me, sat on my bedroom floor, the 5 Colours in Her Hair single on repeat, booming out of my CD player that only ever knew McFly and cutting out pictures of the boys from magazines. I swore then that I'd love them forever and I still stick to that promise. Tom, Harry, Dougie, Danny: I love you with all of my heart and you have been and will continue to be the soundtrack to my life!

McFly: thank you for an incredible night. My throat may be dying and my legs in too much pain, but I consider them gig-wounds and I will treasure them until the next time!

Loving a Band is...

People looking in on the outside of those with a deep love - yes, love - for a band can often judge and more often than not will not understand. Now, this can be frustrating; incredibly frustrating.

Loving a band is watching those members through a computer screen and just grinning. That grin, I tell you, is more than a grin: it's an action expressing the pure happiness those members inject. A grin that, for the moment replaces those three words (that they, every day express for the band members) into a silence. That's not "just a grin". Sometimes, a video, a simple four minute video can protect that girl/boy from the "outside world" and that's more important that those on the outside will ever know. Loving a band is days, weeks, months of excitement before they appear on TV. That moment, when they're presented before many people is a chance for everyone else to experience their sheer talent and flawless personalities. Loving a band is defending them. Defending them when those opposing the party will never quite understand. Defending them because they're perfect as, for you, they're always there. Loving a band is saviour. A saviour from every day life; a saviour from normal struggles; a saviour from deeper struggles. A saviour nonetheless. Listening to the music they create; the music that speaks volumes to those besotted with the band is more than "that tune on the radio". It's seeing the meaning behind the studio versions, the talent behind the acoustic sets and the happiness of the band members when watching them perform live. Loving a band is seeing them live and for that hour and a half not believing what's happening; for that hour and a half it's simply them and the band. Loving a band is mourning for days, weeks, however long after a gig; knowing that that night was more beautiful than their continual excitement will ever be able to portray.  Loving a band is falling for not only the band members, but the relationships inside of the band: the relationships of the band members. Do not underestimate her/his happiness for the members' love for one another. The members' love is their happiness. Loving a band is the music. Loving a band is smiles, crying, excitement. Loving a band is forever.

Proud of Dougie

Dougie Poynter's perfection is impossible to describe with any language's dictionary so I won't try and "proud" doesn't do justice to the emotion I am feeling today. 2 years sober...

Being a fan of McFly, living my life with them and their music has been the most natural thing for me, but when Unsaid Things...Our Story was released, I was in no way prepared for Dougie's chapter: the "lowest point" of his life. I was a mess, that was for sure, but more than that I was proud. Dougie, one of my four heroes had overcome something so sad and had made himself and all of his fans immensely proud.

I was in a mess of my own making...

Sat, statue-like in my living room, I was incredibly sad reading about what Dougie went through and his thoughts and feelings, but, now, 2 years on, 2 years sober, I smile.

My time of sobriety has been the best of my life.

In Unsaid Things...Our Story, when Dougie had said to Harry that it was "too late", for a moment I was reading a novel, the world and what I knew to be true forgotten. Those two words seemed, not only relevant to that specific night but to how he felt about his life and, for a girl who sits at her laptop, listening to McFly albums on repeat next to her posters, it's safe to say, I was living it with him for that moment his sadness was mine too.

Sobriety isn't always easy. I go through patches when I know I'm more likely to relapse, but I take things one day at a time.

Maybe, those who aren't fans won't quite understand the severe sadness I felt and the incredible happiness I feel right now, but I don't care. I know Galaxy Defenders do.

I'm in recovery, and I will be for as long as I stay clean, which I intend to be for the rest of my life.

It's not always easy, but McFly's here forever,

25 Facts About Me

1. I have incredibly big soft spots for the actors Zac Efron, Josh Hutcherson, Andrew Garfield, Robert Downey Jr, Benedict Cumberbatch, Gerard Butler and Josh Duhamel.
2. Star Wars Battlefront 2 will be my favourite video game forever (although I do love Assassin's Creed and Nintendo games!).
3. I can be intimidated by scary people quite easily and this is why I try very hard to be welcoming to everyone (other than to the intimidating, scary people).
4. The first youtuber that I properly stalked and loved was Christina Grimmie, aka "zeldaxlove64".
5. I love hats with the faces of animals on (sounds creepy in writing).
6. Going to the theatre is one of my favourite things.
7. I have very farfetched dreams about the future and so have no idea what I want to do "when I am older".
8. I love chocolate very much and do not intend to stop.
9. Shopping for clothes is my weakness.
10. I really like flowers and my favourite changes weekly (daisies are my faves at the mo!).
11. Christmas is my favourite time of the year and the Christmassy-magicy-feeling, for me will never be lost and I love snow (it's magical), however summer-weather is the bestest.
12. Some days I wear quite boyish, geeky clothes, then the next I'll be wearing girly-50s clothing and then I'll be wearing smart, blazer-like clothing.
13. I love Converse.
14. I've always wanted to be able to sing.
15. Saint Kidd (< my absolute favourite!), Zukie, Truffle Shuffle, Topshop, Urban Outfitters and H&M are my favourite clothing shops.
16. I can get quite nervous at random as well as understandable things, although I can get overly nervous.
17. In general, the only things I properly cry about are McFly and sad things that happen to those closest to me.
18. I go to bed incredibly early and at weekdays I will be rather on edge if I'm not in bed by 9o'clock.
19. Miranda makes me very happy.
20. I love pretty places with lovely rivers and greenery.
21. I am a soap-watcher.
22. Although being with my friends is one of my favourite things, sometimes all I want is to be by myself as in I enjoy my own company.
23. I enjoy working hard but yet my favourite days are those spent in comfy clothes doing virtually nothing as well as eating too much.
24. My i-Pod music ranges from AC/DC to the Hairspray soundtrack.
25. McFly are my everything and they will never understand how much I...cherish them!
